Department of Electronics and Communication & Engineering

The Electronics & Communication Engineering Department was established in 2002 with an intake of 60 students in the B.Tech program. Now we have 2 batches (120 intake) of ECE B Tech Program and M Tech Communication and Signal Processing with an in take of 24 students. The Department have qualified and experienced faculties. The staff members are deputed to participate in workshops, conferences and refresher courses to keep in pace with the recent development in the field of Electronics & Communication Engineering. The Department has good infrastructural facilities and is equipped with full-fledged laboratories. The Department library has an extensive collection of books and journals. The department conducts supplementary technical programs, industrial visits, technical exhibitions, seminars and invited talks in current topics.
The focus of the B.Tech degree programme is on 'Communication Engineering with adequate emphasis given to Electronic Design'. ECE department of Vimal Jyothi Engineering College is prestigious with the latest Synopsys tools to cater various specializations and is equipped with facilities for measurement, characterization and synthesis of experimental as well as theoretical results. Smart classrooms equipped with LCD projectors, podiums and book racks bring out an improved quality of learning. Excellent library facilities are available which constantly aid in research and technical growth. For effective student guidance and counseling, an advisory system is introduced. Every 20 students are assisted by an assistant professor who handles problems related to student attendance, discipline and other issues. Regular meetings of parents and teachers are conducted to assess academic performance and other issues related to students welfare. The Department has efficient faculties and M Tech students working on recent issues in Antenna Design and testing, various image processing tools, Sensor Networks, Embedded Product Development and Optical communication. They had published research papers in reputed conferences and journals.


Career prospects

A graduate in ECE can apply for the post of an engineer with the state government, the central government and the public sector. Private sector opportunities exist in plethora in the Semiconductor industry, Software industry, and Computer related fields and in the Telecom Sector including mobile computing, hardware and networking. Central services like Indian Engineering Service (IES), Indian Telephone Industries, BSNL/ MTNL, AIR, Civil Aviation Department, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., HAL, Refineries, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Bharat Electronics Limited, Indian Railways, ISRO, DRDO and the Defense services offer exciting careers.

IEEE COMSOC

Founded in 1952 with the formation of IRE’s (the Institute of Radio Engineers) Professional Group on Communications Systems (PGCS), IEEE Communications Society has evolved into a diverse group of global industry professionals with a common interest in advancing all communications technologies. Members interact across international and technological borders to:

  • produce publications
  • organize conferences
  • foster educational programs
  • promote local activities
  • work on technical committees

IEEE gives its members guidance to plot career path, track jobs, to conduct local events and conferences and also enable member to member communication. Since the Communications Society (ComSoc) began operations in January 1972 as an independent Society of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) with over 8,800 members, ComSochas become the premier international forum for the exchange of ideas on communications technologies and information networking.

The students chapter of IEEE in VimalJyothi became active on 10th April 2015 and was inaugurated by Dr. JitendranathMungara, currently working as Dean, PG studies – R V College of Engineering, Bangalore. As of January 2016, VJEC COMSOC SOCIETY has around 30+ student members.The society conducted a wide variety of programs in last year and also took part in various activities in the communication field. Through the different technical activities of this chapter- engineering students, researchers, academicians, industry employers are benefited immensely and got the opportunity to closely interact with each other.

The motive of this society was to provide encouragement to develop applications in the respective area of study. It consistsof a diverse group of industry professionals with a common interest in advancing all communications technologies. The Society sponsors publications, conferences, educational programs, local activities, and technical committees that foster original work in all aspects of communications science, engineering, and technology. It also encourages the development of applications that use signals to transfer voice, data, image, and/or video information between locations.It promotes the theory and use of systems involving all types of terminals, computers, and information processors; all pertinent systems and operations that facilitate transfer; all transmission media; switched and unswitched networks; and network layouts, protocols, architectures, and implementations.

The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) is India's leading recognized professional society devoted to the advancement of Science and Technology of Electronics, Telecommunication & IT. Founded in 1953, it serves more than 60,000 members through 65 centers, spread all over India and abroad. The Institution provides leadership in Scientific and Technical areas of direct importance to the national development and economy. Government of India has recognized IETE as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) and also notified as an educational Institution of national eminence. The objectives of IETE focus on advancing electro-technology. The IETE conducts and sponsors technical meetings, conferences, symposia, and exhibitions all over India, publishes technical journals and provides continuing education as well as career advancement opportunities to its members.

The activities of the professional activity centre include organizing technical meetings, discussions, talks, lectures, vistis etc for the benefit of corporate and students members. The activities of IETE Students Forum (ISF) started at Vimal Jyothi Engineering College, Chemperi in March 2015, with 121 student members. The ISF aims to facilitate technical visits / practical training / project work / employment, of the student members in R&D laboratories, industries, academic institutions etc. Also to provide a common platform for the student members to exchange ideas and information on the topics of their interest e.g. curriculum, employment / higher educational opportunities, emerging trends, new development etc..

Intel Galileo is the first in a line of Arduino-certified development boards based on Intel x86 architecture and is designed for the maker and education communities.

Intel Galileo combines Intel technology with support for Arduino ready-made hardware expansion cards (called "shields") and the Arduino software development environment and libraries. The development board runs an open source Linux operating system with the Arduino software libraries, enabling re-use of existing software, called "sketches". Description

PSoC is a revolutionary platform introduced by Cypress semiconductors and it is a true programmable embedded System-on-chip integrating configurable analog and digital peripheral functions, memory and a microcontroller on a single chip. The training on PSoC provides hands-on experience with Cypress’s industry-leading technology. PSoC integrated circuit consists of a core, configurable analog and digital blocks, and programmable routing and interconnects. Paged SRAM for data, Flash memory for instructions and fixed data, and I/O Registers for controlling and accessing the configurable logic blocks and functions are the available three separate memory spaces in PSoC.PSoC has architecture similar to microcontroller and it also contains PLD and programmable analog.

This training was aimed to provide an introduction to the varieties of embedded system-on-chip and to bring kits for students to work on. The students were trained to implement analog and digital peripherals and hands on projects resulting in exploration of fundamentals of embedded systems. The main lab activities concentrated are:

  • Introduction to architecture, designing and manufacturing of PSoC
  • Understanding and working with digital output

  • LCD as well as ADC interfacing

Map creator is an advanced data collection and map editing tool provided and maintained free of charge by HERE Maps that includes fresh and high resolution satellite imagery for easy place discovery. HERE Maps is a business unit of nokia that focus on providing location based experiences for mobile products, the navigation industry and the automotive market. With focus on content (location data), social location services (platform, apps) and local commerce it compliment hardware, software and services with “Smart location data”.

By this training the students attained the capability to drive with the Nokia person to explore latest map making tools and learned how a project can be created in Map creator. This training concentrated on the activities such as

  • Obtaining the corporate exposure
  • Providing world’s highest quality and most upto-date maps
  • Exposure in the map making tools
  • Motivation lectures for students from experts
  • Involving internship project for each students

The department of ECE always tries to encourage the inborn talents of students and help to develop the innovative ideas of them by providing vast opportunities and trainings. EAGLES is a student support organization that give platform for students to come up with their knowledge and skills. Students are given chances to conduct seminars, symposia and invited lectures and can also take part in events like technical quiz, paper presentations, group discussions, model presentations, etc. EAGLES assist students for conducting technical events and tech fest (AAVEGA). This departmental association came into existence in the year 2012 by renaming E-NOVA it's formal form . It's served as a vibrant association in Vimal Jyothi by taking initiative for a lot of technical programs and activities. This dominant association is now on its workshop to channelize the potential of its clients to develop the technical as well as soft skills.

To provide exposure to the students with hands on experience on various basic engineering practices in Electronics components and devices. All basic Electronic and their characteristics, applications can be studied. Using these devices the small electronic circuits can be constructed and can be checked.

  • 2K6EC 407(P) ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS LAB

This laboratory is intended to give the students an idea of designing and testing different electronic circuits and study their various properties. Also to impart hands on experience in verification of circuit laws and theorems, measurement of circuit parameters and study of circuit characteristics.

Communication Engineering Laboratory

The Linear Integrated Circuits lab course introduces the concept and application of operational amplifiers. Laboratory assignments clarify textbook formulas and examples, as well as help to close the gap between theory and real-life problems. All analog and digital I.C related experiments are carried out in this laboratory.

This laboratory provides comprehensive, hands-on instruction in the terminology, principles, and applications of the analog and digital communication circuits and systems. Designing of different types of modulators and demodulators like AM, FM, PWM, PAM, PPM are done in this laboratory.

The objective of this lab is to perform rigorous experiments to consolidate basic knowledge in digital electronics. Digital Electronics laboratory is intended to make students familiar with different types of designs, sequential logic circuits, combinational logic circuits, trouble shooting & study of various digital circuits.

The objective of this lab is to understand assembly-language programs and execute using microprocessor kit. This lab has various types of microprocessor, micro controller trainer kits along with interfacing modules to demonstrate the detailed applications of microprocessors.

The main purpose behind project laboratory is to mould students for developing ideas in multiple areas and to integrate them for innovative works. In addition to the Central Library, a well-equipped departmental library is functioning in the department catering to the needs of the faculty and students with a seating capacity of 30. The library will be open from 9.00 am to 4.10 pm on all working days. Issue & return of books will be from 12.10 pm to 01.00 pm.All ECE department staff and students are eligible to use the library. Others can make use of the Library only with special permission of the HOD ECE
