Company profile

Intel Corporation is an American multinational technology company headquartered in Santa Clara, California. Intel is one of the world's largest and highest valued semiconductor chip makers, based on revenue. It is the inventor of the x86 series of microprocessors, the processors found in most personal computers. Intel supplies processors for computer companies such as HP and Dell.
Intel Corporation was founded on July 18, 1968. Intel also makes motherboard chipsets, network interface controllers and integrated circuits, flash memory, graphics chips, embedded processors and other devices related to communications and computing. Founded by semiconductor pioneers Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore and widely associated with the executive leadership and vision of Andrew Grove, Intel combines advanced chip design capability with a leading-edge manufacturing capability. Though Intel was originally known primarily to engineers and technologists, its "Intel Inside" advertising campaign of the 1990s made it a household name, along with its Pentium processors.

Program objective
  • INTEL® Intelligent Systems Lab has been setup to enhance students' employability skills in order to bridge the gap between industry and academia.
  • FICE is also committed to support in assisting students for the academic projects by providing training and certification thereby generating employment.
  • To provide training on latest intel technology platform.
  • To develop prototype and technology ideas in students.
Description

Intel Galileo is the first in a line of Arduino-certified development boards based on Intel x86 architecture and is designed for the maker and education communities. Intel Galileo combines Intel technology with support for Arduino ready-made hardware expansion cards (called "shields") and the Arduino software development environment and libraries. The development board runs an open source Linux operating system with the Arduino software libraries, enabling re-use of existing software, called "sketches". Intel Galileo can be programmed through OS X, Microsoft Windows and Linux host operating software. The board is also designed to be hardware and software compatible with the Arduino shield ecosystem.

Company profile

Cypress Semiconductor Corporation is an American semiconductor design and manufacturing company. Cypress is headquartered in San Jose, CA and has manufacturing plants and design facilities in the United States (including San Jose CA, Lynnwood WA, Colorado Springs CO, Bloomington MN, Lexington KY, San Diego CA, Beaverton OR), the Philippines (Manila), India (Bangalore, Chennai), China (Shanghai), and Ireland (Cork). The company initially focused on the design and development of high speed CMOS SRAMs, EEPROMs, PAL devices, and TTL logic devices. Cypress delivers high-performance, high-quality solutions at the heart of today’s most advanced embedded systems, from automotive, industrial and networking platforms to highly interactive consumer and mobile devices. With a broad, differentiated product portfolio that includes NOR flash memories, F-RAM and SRAM, Traveo™ microcontrollers, the industry’s only PSoC® programmable system-on-chip solutions, analog and PMIC Power Management ICs, CapSense® capacitive touch-sensing controllers, and Wireless BLE Bluetooth® Low-Energy and USB connectivity solutions.

Program objective
  • To make the students aware of the modern tool available for embedded systems.
  • To provide deep understanding about the PSoC chips and the usage of them to design custom PCB.
  • To familiarize with the industry standards.
  • To attain knowledge on using the international standard on system design.

Description

PSoC is a revolutionary platform introduced by Cypress semiconductors and it is a true programmable embedded System-on-chip integrating configurable analog and digital peripheral functions, memory and a microcontroller on a single chip. The training on PSoC provides hands-on experience with Cypress’s industry-leading technology. PSoC integrated circuit consists of a core, configurable analog and digital blocks, and programmable routing and interconnects. Paged SRAM for data, Flash memory for instructions and fixed data, and I/O Registers for controlling and accessing the configurable logic blocks and functions are the available three separate memory spaces in PSoC.PSoC has architecture similar to microcontroller and it also contains PLD and programmable analog.
This training was aimed to provide an introduction to the varieties of embedded system-on-chip and to bring kits for students to work on. The students were trained to implement analog and digital peripherals and hands on projects resulting in exploration of fundamentals of embedded systems. The main lab activities concentrated are:

  • Introduction to architecture, designing and manufacturing of PSoC
  • Understanding and working with digital output
  • PSoC creator design
  • LCD as well as ADC interfacing
  • Serial and parallel communication interfaces
  • Student miniproject/mainproject using PSoC

Lab Set by HERE-a NOKIA Unit, Gurgaon, India

HERE is a company co-owned by German automotive companies Audi, BMW, and Daimler. HERE is multi-faceted business in the provision of mapping data, technologies and services to the automotive, consumer and enterprise sectors. The technology of HERE is based on a cloud-computing model, in which location data and services are stored on remote servers so that users have access to it regardless of which device they use. HERE captures location content such as road networks, buildings, parks and traffic patterns. It then sells or licenses that mapping content, along with navigation services and location solutions to other businesses.

HERE's origins lie in Navteq, an American company founded in 1985 as Karlin& Collins, Inc., later known as Navigation Technologies Corporation and eventually as Navteq. The company was acquired by Finnish telecommunications firm Nokia in 2008 and became a subsidiary. Nokia ran Navteq's business along with their own Nokia Maps which was based on technology from Gate5, a Berlin-based company that Nokia purchased in 2006. The two remained as separate entities of Nokia Corporation until Navteq was amalgamated into the core Nokia operations in 2011. The service was rebranded as Here in 2012, bringing together mapping, location businesses, satellite navigation and other services under one brand. Nokia sold Here to a consortium of German companies, Audi, BMW and Daimler, in December 2015.

Program objective

  • To provide exposure to the corporate world by the use of innovative tools.
  • To provide experience on map creator tools with the help of live projects.
  • To help students to do internship projects.
  • To motivate the students by the lectures from experts.

Description

Map creator is an advanced data collection and map editing tool provided and maintained free of charge by HERE Maps that includes fresh and high resolution satellite imagery for easy place discovery. HERE Maps is a business unit of nokia that focus on providing location based experiences for mobile products, the navigation industry and the automotive market. With focus on content (location data), social location services (platform, apps) and local commerce it compliment hardware, software and services with “Smart location data”.
By this training the students attained the capability to drive with the Nokia person to explore latest map making tools and learned how a project can be created in Map creator. This training concentrated on the activities such as

  • Live project in the map creator tool
  • Obtaining the corporate exposure
  • Providing world’s highest quality and most upto-date maps
  • Exposure in the map making tools
  • Motivation lectures for students from experts
  • Involving internship project for each students
